Luang Prabang

Big Brother Mouse is based in Luang Prabang, the former capital of Laos and a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is where we produce our books, and we're happy to show visitors what we're doing. Stop by if you're in town!

At our shop, you can buy books to take when you visit villages in Laos, or take our bilingual (Lao and English) books back home as a unique gift for kids. It's a great way of introducing them to another culture. Most books cost just 10,000 to 60,000 kip each (about $0.50 to $3 U.S.). Additional donations are welcome. While you're in Luang Prabang, there are also other ways for you to volunteer.

To reach our shop, walk down the main street of Luang Prabang. From the Night Market area (with the National Museum on the left, and Phousi Hill on the right), walk towards the end of the peninsula. Take the third left (not counting small alleys), which is immediately after the outside dining area of 3 Nagas Restaurant. We're just two houses down on the left. You can volunteer here at our English language drop-in center, buy books, or go spend a day at our school.

Open every day except 1 January, 8 March, Lao New Year (about 14-16 April), 1 May, 1 June, Boat Race Festival (lunar-based 1-day festival in September), 7 October, and 2 December.

 

Vientiane

Our Vientiane shop is in Xokyai Village. This map shows our location, on the small road near Souvany Home Center.

Open Monday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Our shop in Vientiane has all our books for sale. This is in the home of our Vientiane manager Chamlern. He is usually there but please call, or have someone who speaks Lao call for you, before going, to be sure.

Diplomacy

Games like Diplomacy offer young adults and older students a way to learn about geography, history, and strategy, while also practicing English with a visitor who volunteers for a day. And they're fun for everybody (after we pull the Brits out of the water).
