Lao spellings are phonetic, so a Lao child who has learned the alphabet is much closer to being able to read than a child in an English-speaking country. Here is one of several books intended to make that process fun. Starting with 'Frog and Alligator', Khamla has written a short, funny rhyme for each letter. Ounla's lively cartoons help children understand the text.

Until I read this, every alphabet book I saw started with a chicken, then an egg. This is much more fun.
