Recalling a Khmu childhood in Laos
The Khmu are one of 49 ethnic groups in Laos, traditionally living on mountainsides. Siphone was born in a rural Khmu village in 1988. Here, he offers a rare inside look at traditional Khmu life of the late 20th and early 21st centuries: Growing food, entering school, trapping field mice as a snack, his first bicycle, the death of a friend, and moving to the city so he could attend university.
