The most famous and magnificent temple in Luang Prabang is Wat Xieng Thong, near the tip of the peninsula. This temple was key in UNESCO's decision to name Luang Prabang a World Heritage Site.
Fifty years ago, artisans here decorated the walls of La Chapelle Rouge (the Red Chapel) with glass mosaic tiles from the parables of Siaosawat, a hero of Lao legend. Many of these tales are already being forgotten. Here are the complete stories of Wat Xieng Thong, beautifully illustrated with the mosaics.
We have separately published a Lao-language edition of this book.
