Lao visitors to Thailand often remark, "There are so many birds here!" It's actually Laos that is more unusual. Birds in populated but impoverished areas are often killed for food. Through books like this, we hope to build a greater appreciation of wildlife diversity. Equally important will be the role that books can play in raising educational levels and standards of living, so that other food sources are available.

We should stop publishing books about animals that eat mice. It just encourages them!
