Launching a Reading Program: For our reading program, we give enough books to each classroom in the school so that children can read every day. Often called "Sustained Silent Reading", this approach develops reading skills, a love of reading, and a habit of reading. We launch the program with a book party, show here. For one full morning or afternoon, our team reads aloud, talks about books, leads outdoor games, and teaches songs about books and reading. At the end, every child gets to choose a book of their own, in addition to the books we leave in the classrooms.

This event was sponsored by Manoj and Bory Paul (United States). Thank you!

This was the first day of the "Sustained Silent Reading" program at this rural school. Children choose a book, then sit at their desk and read it. This approach has improved reading skills in many countries; now we're introducing it in Laos.

It costs just $400 USD to sponsor a daily reading program and the book party that starts it off. Each classroom gets about 90 books; in this school, including a free book for each student, we left 689 books!

Will you start a school full of children on a lifetime habit of reading? Donations have recognized charitable status in the USA, Australia, the UK, and Switzerland; please click here for details. Thank you!
