Launching a Reading Program: For our reading program, we give enough books to each classroom in the school so that children can read every day. Often called "Sustained Silent Reading", this approach develops reading skills, a love of reading, and a habit of reading. We launch the program with a book party, show here. For one full morning or afternoon, our team reads aloud, talks about books, leads outdoor games, and teaches songs about books and reading. At the end, every child gets to choose a book of their own, in addition to the books we leave in the classrooms.

This event was sponsored by Global Fund for Children (United States). Thank you!

This school is close to Luang Prabang. Most schools near the city are made of concrete, with funding from international organizations. Farther from the cities, schools are often made of bamboo.

More important than the construction, we believe, is what happens inside. Most schools have absolutely no books that children can read for enjoyment - until Big Brother Mouse starts a reading program. Even in new schools, many students in grades 4 and 5 still cannot read. Will you help us get books into more schools? The cost of one new school building gets a reading program started in more than 120 schools. Will you help?
