Launching a Reading Program: For our reading program, we give enough books to each classroom in the school so that children can read every day. Often called "Sustained Silent Reading", this approach develops reading skills, a love of reading, and a habit of reading. We launch the program with a book party, show here. For one full morning or afternoon, our team reads aloud, talks about books, leads outdoor games, and teaches songs about books and reading. At the end, every child gets to choose a book of their own, in addition to the books we leave in the classrooms.

This event was sponsored by Global Fund for Children (United States). Thank you!

We wish to use this page to thank Amanda Hsiung, and the Global Fund for Children, for their long-term support of Big Brother Mouse.

The Global Fund for Children looks for small, locally-based organizations that are focused on helping children. They found Big Brother Mouse in 2008, when we were just two years old. Their continuing support has helped us focus on promoting literacy, rather than spend a lot of time writing proposals.

Amanda is leaving GFC soon. We wish her well, and hope she will carry memories of thousands of children who have benefited from her work.
