Launching a Reading Program: For our reading program, we give enough books to each classroom in the school so that children can read every day. Often called "Sustained Silent Reading", this approach develops reading skills, a love of reading, and a habit of reading. We launch the program with a book party, show here. For one full morning or afternoon, our team reads aloud, talks about books, leads outdoor games, and teaches songs about books and reading. At the end, every child gets to choose a book of their own, in addition to the books we leave in the classrooms.

This event was sponsored by Lynne Taylor and family (United States). Thank you!

What happens after Big Brother Mouse leaves?

This month, we called teachers (and in a few cases, directors) at 21 schools where we held book parties in the last 2 years:

All 21 said they more often see students reading for enjoyment, than before we held the book party. 19 of 21 said a significant number of students read every day.

Now, with our new reading program, we expect to see even more improvement. And by testing reading levels before and after the program, we're going to measure its impact.
