Book party: Book parties are one way that Big Brother Mouse gets books to children in rural Lao villages. In primary schools we read from books, play games, sing songs, and have a drawing lesson. In high schools, we have a different set of activities. At the end, every student gets to choose a book, usually the first book they've ever owned. Then we give more to the school, for their library or classroom use.

This event was sponsored by Sasha Alyson. Thank you!

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up: A ballet dancer? Airplane pilot? Backhoe operator? A growing number of kids in Laos want to be a Big Brother Mouse book party leader.

Our book party teams are made up of young people, not much older than the students, usually from similar villages. The book party activities are important. Just as important is that students are seeing role models who love books, and who share their love of reading.

Vannalet, shown reading a book here, offers two possible career choices: Most of the time he writes books. Sometimes he works at book parties.
