The value of education

Book sponsorships pay most, but not all, of the cost of creating and printing a book. That helps us keep prices low, for schools, for visitors, and the growing number of Lao people who have enough income to consider buying a low-priced book. We asked sponsors to tell us why they decided to do so.

Manoj has, as of early 2012, sponsored more than 20 books and 200 book parties. Yes, those numbers are correct.

Photo of sponsor When I was a child, my father told me a story. When he was in high school, the head master called him into his office and said that he would be the first person in his village to go to college. I always remember that story and have attached great value to education. I knew that to make something of my life, I had to learn. I am proud to support literacy in Lao and several indigenous languages of the people in the country of Lao.

In addition to those sponsorships in Laos, he has funded two schools in Cambodia. He's not a wealthy heir; he works for his money, and is extraordinarily generous with it.
